An Homage to My Past!

Good evening!

Saturday evening, my dad, his wife Trudi, my sweetie, and myself all went over to the Salvation Army’s Kroc Center to watch the Seattle Temple Brass Band and Songsters perform.

The band was really terrific. They reminded me of my youth growing up in the Salvation Army myself. Some of you may not know this, but I grew up going to the Salvation Army. One of my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE part of all those years was singing, and playing cornet in the brass band.

I remember picking up a cornet to play for the very first time in Portland, Oregon, when I was something like 6 years old. It was very slow going, with a lot of squeaks, squawks, and blats, but little by little, I got a little better, and a little better, and pretty soon I was having the time of my life trying like the dicken’s to play with the big guys!!

I played all through middle school, junior high, high school, and I played until I was about 23 years old. I ended up playing in marching bands, symphonic bands, pep bands, and brass bands alike. We traveled all over the west coast doing performances just like the one we were watching! That was quite a while now, but listening to this band play made me think about picking up my cornet and start playing again!!

Oh the memories!!

I still have my cornet, bright, shiny, and ready to play at a moments notice sitting in my closet. Not to say that I WOULD be able to play again at a moments’ notice, that would take quite a bit of practicing, and possibly some relearning too!

You know I have been busy these past few months searching for my new art medium?? Well, it sometimes amazes me to know that I had an “art medium” all that time, and never once went looking for it, it just seemed to find me! Music is something that had always seemed to come naturally to me, although I am sure that it really helped being born into a musical family. Most everyone in my family either played a brass instrument, or could sing.

I wish I could do that all over again, knowing what I know now!! I am not sure I would have ever given it up!!

Anyway, we really did have a fun time, both the band and the songsters were amazingly talented and extremely fun to listed to – and Jason even impressed himself by not even remotely falling asleep once!! LOL! πŸ˜‰ I was just dissapointed that we couldn’t purchase a music CD of them playing – that would have been GREAT!! and I am sure I would be busy driving Jason crazy with it playing over and over again in the car!! GOOD TIMES!!!

Have a FABULOUS evening! ;-)

Motivational Quote of the Day!

Here is your motivational quote for today!

β€œDevelop interest in life as you see it; in people, things, literature, music – the world is so rich, simply throbbing with rich treasures, beautiful souls and interesting people. Forget yourself.”
~Henry Miller

Have a FABULOUS afternoon!! ;-)

A Reading Day!

Good Morning!

I have had a very good weekend so far. I spent the day yesterday taking care of myself; writing, resting, taking some time to get pampered, spending some quality time with my sweetie. I met my girlfriend, Dawn, for dinner at Venti’s last night! I love catching up with Dawn! Things sound like they are going very well for her, but her story is not mine to tell. I am just so thankful that she is happy – she really deserves to be happy!!!Β  πŸ˜‰

We did get to do some wedding talk, which was fun! I have never been a matron of honor before and really don’t know what is expected, besides make sure that the bride is not stressed by anything on her wedding day!

Ok, done!

I CAN DO THAT!! πŸ˜‰

Oh, yeah! That and the bachelorette party, but Dawn is so sweet, she said she didn’t care if that was just her and I going out and doing something fun!!! I think we should have a girls’ weekend up in Portland or Seattle, just the two of us! or maybe Sammy too!! We could take a leisurely train ride up, have a spa day, a staying in a FABULOUS hotel with a BEAUTIFUL view. Spending the whole weekend giggling, walking, shopping, good food, good drinks, take in some of the sights. I will have to run it by her and see what she thinks!! I think we should do that about a month before the wedding, so that she doesn’t have to worry about ANYTHING!!!! πŸ˜‰

Yes, I can do that too!! πŸ˜‰

Ok, so back to today, besides doing chores and getting ready for this week of work, I am going to be doing A LOT of reading!! I am in the middle of four different books right now, so I am trying to touch base with each one. The four books I am reading are:

  1. What the Deaf-Mute Heard
  2. Full Heart Satisfied Belly
  3. The Artist’s Way
  4. The City of Fallen Angels

However, my girlfriend, Chris, and myself are trying to read the new book by Cassandra Claire, City of Fallen Angels, together. This means that we have an agreed upon stopping point, and when we see each other at work, we discuss what we have read so far. Currently I am just starting chapter 5. Chris and I had agreed that we were going to read to chapter 10, but apparently it is getting good, because Chris texted me yesterday and told me that she was going through chapter 14! LOL!!!

So, I had really better get cracking!!! πŸ˜‰

Right now, Jason and I are taking a break from chores, mainly so I can get my morning blog posted. We are listening to a variety of music playing – my i-pod actually! Right now one of my favorite Keili’i Reichel Hawaiian songs are playing. Jason just commented that he really liked it – I do to, it is very peaceful, and reminds me of my family!! πŸ˜‰

Which reminds me, I had better call and touch base with them today so they don’t think that I have fallen off the face of the earth somehow!! πŸ˜‰

Have a FABULOUS morning!! πŸ˜‰

My Dad’s Performance!!

Good evening!

As promised, I have my Dad’s singing performance from church last night!! I have gotten permission to post this here!! I hope you enjoy, I know I did!! πŸ˜‰

I have memories of my dad singing ever since I can remember. My dad, would get together with my grandpa (his dad) and sometimes my auntie, and they would all play their various guitars, and ukuleles, and they would all sing all kinds of music – INSTANT PARTY!!! Matter of fact, music is something that always permeated our home growing up. We would sing ALL THE TIME!!! We would sing loudly, softly, on key and off, oldies, jazz, christian, country, we would sing together, sing in rounds, and we would even harmonize. We would sing anything and everything that we knew the words to. Singing was just something that seemed to be passed down genetically, to most of us that is!!! Some of our family members couldn’t carry a tune on their own, but did GREAT singing with anyone who could – which made the rest of us pretty handy!!! My dad would take us caroling at Christmas time, and make us sing performances for church services – we all just LOVED, and most of us still do, to sing!!!

Thank you, Dad! Singing and music is a gift that we all carry around with us wherever we go!!!

I love you!! (oh yeah – and don’t forget who your favorite daughter is!!! uh, hello? me!!!!!)

Have a FABULOUS evening!!! πŸ˜‰
