My dad is pretty awesome! He has always accepted his Father’s day gifts of ties, handmade ash trays, and who-all knows what else! No matter how old we get, us girls will always be his babies, and it both makes me blush, and proud EVERY time I hear it!!
You know my dad has been very protective of all of us girls for as long as I can remember. I know that when my sweetie and I got together almost 17 years ago, my dad was as protective as ever! Thankfully, my dad and my husband both became friends, and I have a hard time having them NOT rub off on each other when they hang out!! LOL!!! They are so similar, it is sometimes scary!! π
I must say that even though my dad and I have not always gotten along, I am so thankful for the relationship that we have grown, and nurtured! He is someone that I am VERY thankful to have in my life, and someone I love more than he will even know!!!
I have had a really nice day today! If you read my post this morning, you know that I was heading out for a day downtown.
My first stop was my favorite clothing store, Torrid. I had ordered a cardigan that had come in, and I had some items that I needed to return so I was happy to oblige the need to go! Here is a pic of the cardigan that I took in the store last week.
So, of course, I just HAD to try on some clothes!!! You know, to get ready for Spring!!! π This is a pic of the clothes I had picked out to try on – I had planned on taking my time and being there for quite a while!
What you may not be able to see is that these clothes are hung two levels deep! I really was determined to find the perfect somethings!!
Here is what I wore there:
This cute little top came home with me.
Cardigan, yep, that one came home too!
Another white blouse, guilty! Although, as you can see from the picture, this one is going to need some kind of undershirt. I am actually debating taking this one back, what do you think??
After I tried this shirt on, I got a call from my dad. My dad, and his wife, Trudi were in town, by my house and wanted to visit, so I cut my downtown trip short, and zipped over back to my side of town. Once I got home, we headed over to a pizza place for yummy pizza and a very nice visit. On my way, I told myself, “Self, don’t forget to take pics this time!” and of course, I did!! So, unfortunately, no pics!! Maybe next time!!! π
After Dad and Trudi went home, I didn’t want to go back to downtown – we are trying to conserve gas, and I was looking forward to getting a manicure, so I was going to get bummed about it, but instead of throwing a pity party for myself, I decided to step up the loveliest nail salon – the one I had created in my living room!!! You can see that they even served me a refreshing drink with cherries – YUM!! π
My hands were in need of some SERIOUS attention!
Here is the before shot:
Here is the after:
Of course I chose red! It is still my FAVORITE color! The color of PASSION!!! π
That is the end of my pictures for today, but I did get to run a couple of other errands and then spend some time hanging out with my sweetie after he got done with work today. After I am done here, I plan on snuggling with him on the couch and watch another episode of BONES!! I really do LOVE that show! Bones and Booth should just knock off all of this foolishness and just get together already!! WHEW! I am glad that is out in the open!!! π We are still somewhere into season two, so it will takes a month or three more to get caught up, but slowly and surely – we will get there!!
OH, and for those who might be curious, I came home from Torrid after purchasing 3 cardigans, 2 blouses, 1 tank top and 1 blazer!! EEK!!! Maybe I had better stay away from the mall for a while, what do you think??? HEE! HEE! HEE!!
Have a FABULOUS evening!! π
Note to Chunky Dunker’s: Dress for your body as it is today! Even if you are in the process of losing weight. Purchasing clothes that are too small for yourself because you may fit into them someday could backfire, and you will wind up with a closet full of a lot of somethings that make you feel bad because you can’t fit into them. (Take my word on that!) YOU CAN DO IT!!! π
Somehow I missed a day some where within this week. Not that I am complaining, but when I found out that it was already Thursday, I almost WHOOT-WHOOT’ed!! I am so thankful that Friday is tomorrow, I am really looking forward to getting one day closer to my weekend!!!
My dad had his medical procedure today for the prostate cancer he has been dealing with, and people have been coming out of the woodwork to send our family their prayers and best wished, which I am just so thankful for! I haven’t heard how he is doing yet, but his wife has assured me that she will let me know as soon as they get back to the hotel. I hope it is soon, because I am waiting on pins and needles for some good news.
The sun has done it’s best to peek out through out the day, and although it is still pretty chilly it is started to look a little like Spring around here today. There are flowers starting to bloom, and my sweetie decided that he would barbecue this evening, which I TOTALLY LOVE!!! We are having some grilled steak tonight, and a HUGE spinach salad! YUM!!! Which is perfect because I have been dealing with some anemia, and I have got to really increase my iron intake, and I hate taking iron pills – they always make me nauseous!!
Talking about needing more iron in my diet, I am going to have to do some research tonight to find out which foods are high in iron. Maybe I will post my finds tomorrow for anyone else who may need more iron in their diets. I will keep you posted! π
Did I tell you I have received a summons for jury duty??? I received it in the mail yesterday. I have never had jury duty before, which is pretty good seeing that I am 35. Anyone else have any jury duty stories!??
Anyway, I can see that this posting is getting a little long, so I am going to go wait for a call about my dad’s progress!! I will make sure to update you as soon as I hear anything!!!
Dad’s Procedure Update: OK, I have just gotten a call from my sister, Alice, and my dad’s procedure went well. They inserted d 50 seeds into his scrotum with a needle – OUCH!!! (is that TMI???), which sounds like a lot but they could put in between 45 and100, so 50 is GREAT!! He got to hang out with his legs up in stirrups all afternoon – now he knows what our gyno visits are like. π His physician said he shouldn’t have to go back again unless his blood platelets don’t go back down to zero like they are supposed to. He can’t be around kids, or pregnant women for more than 15-20 minutes at any given time for the next 4 months because he is radioactive. Talk about being a party animal!!! π
I am just so thankful that he is doing well, and I hope he is just able to get comfortable and get some rest!!
WE LOVE YOU, DADDY!!!! π
Have a FABULOUS evening!!! π
Note to Chunky Dunker’s Club: Make sure when choosing foods to eat, make sure to eat from every color of the rainbow. Cherries, carrots, blackberries, broccoli, asparagus, cabbage, various bell peppers, red potatoes, squash, all sorts of lettuces, etc. I think you get the idea, but the more varied the colors in your diet the more likely you are to be getting a better variety of your daily vitamins that you need to feel great!! Remember, YOU CAN DO IT!!! π
I just wanted to post a quick note this morning before I zipped off to work! Actually this posting is more like a request:
My dad is going in today, at 3 pm, to have his procedure for the prostate cancer that he has been dealing with. Would you mind praying for him today? I know that he is going to be alright, I can feel it in my bones, but I know that he could really use some prayer today – prayer for health, prayer for peace, prayer for rest, andΒ prayer for a quick recovery!! I really do LOVE that dad of mine, and I just could not imagine my world without him!!
This would mean so much to both me and the rest of my family!
I am still under the weather today, but I am determined to snap out of it and get my booty to work tomorrow!
As for who all of these visitors are? Well, early this afternoon my dad and his wife Trudi stopped by for a visit, as they were headed up to Portland, and then on to Seattle. My dad has prostate cancer, and will be getting his radiation treatment up in Seattle. Not the best way to get some vacation time, that is for sure!! But, I was thankful that they stopped for a few hours so we could catch up!! I am hoping he is feeling up to stopping back by as they head home on Friday!
This evening, I am waiting for my husband, my sister, Alice, and Taylynn to get here. Alice and Taylynn will be spending the night and then they will be on their way home tomorrow morning. I hear Taylynn is very talkative, which I just love!! I think 7 year olds should be talkative, it shows inquisitiveness, and that is the perfect age to be curious about EVERYTHING!! I am pretty sure I was!!! π
Anyway, things should be mostly back to “normal” by tomorrow – whatever that means!!
Have a FABULOUS evening!!! π
Note to Chunky Dunkers: Do just one healthy action more than you did yesterday, the accumulation of days will soon ad up, and before you know it you will be feeling fitter and healthier than you have in a long time!
I got a call from my dad tonight! He was worried about me and wanted to make sure that I was doing well!! Well, I am so glad he called, because I feel soooo much better after talking to him!!! He has a way of putting everything into perspective!! My dad has become a very VERY important part of my life, and I am not sure what I would ever do without him!!! Thank you, Daddy!! I thank God for you!!! π
I have a busy week ahead, but I am optimistic that it will be a productive week!! I have my i-pod ready to rock out to during my work days, I have our dinner menus planned, my life simplifying tasks written out, and I am going into tomorrow with the idea that it will be a fresh new day, and all of life’s BEST are possible!!!
With that said, I am going to go upstairs and read a little bit before bed!!
Tonight I would like to share with you the interview I was fortunate enough to get with my Dad this past weekend. Now, please note: I am in no way a professional reporter, journalist, or interviewer in any way shape or form. The reason I wanted to interview my dad was because I realize how important he is to me, and how little I really know about him; so lunch on Sunday was the perfect opportunity to learn a little bit more about the man I call Daddy!!! π
Christina: What was your earliest memory?
Paul: I remember my dad coming into my bedroom, and dumping my toybox. He cut a hole in it, and turned it upside down out in the backyard.
C: What was he doing?
P: He was converting it into a dog house for his dog that I just couldn’t stand.
C: Why not?
P: Well, this dog was a bulldog that my dad had brought home.Β I was on the porch eating an ice cream cone, and he knocked the ice cream off of my cone and ate it. I hated that dog!
C: Laughing – no one comes between my dad and his ice cream! What do you remember about school?
P: I remember getting into trouble in kindergarten because I would always slide into class on my knees, and I remember the teacher calling my mom, and mom giving me a talking too.
My favorite school memory was in first grade. Mrs. Fitzgerald let me draw pictures of ships for Columbus Day. You see, I was really good at drawing sail boats, and she had given me a largeΒ sheet of craft paper that I drew three ships on. She hung it right outside of the classroom door so everyone could see it. I was so proud of that picture. Yes, that was a good moment for me.
C: What do you remember about camp? [Side note: my family all went to Camp Kuratli at Trestle Glenn in Boring, Oregon – I believe starting with my dad’s mom; so I know dad started going when he was really young.]
P: My first camp was in 1960, and it was Women and Children’s camp. I was about 5 or 6. My mom, your grandma, was the counselor for the women. Alice [his little sister] and I shared a bed. Some of the cabins had big hospital beds in them back then.
C: What would you do at the camp?
P: Well Grandma eventually became the Camp Director for the Women & Childrens’ camp and she would bring people to come in and teach the women important life skills. For example, this woman came in and brought in $20 worth of groceries and not one piece of junk food. She taught the women how to grocery shop on a budget in a healthy way.
C: Ooh, that is really cool! That is so awesome that she did stuff like that.
P: Well, I also remember being 5 years old, and she dressed me up like a pirate, and she dressed Alice up as a princess. She made me sing ‘the Pirate and the Princess’ in front of all of the women. I was terrified, I hated to sing in public. I also remember she smeared some burnt tree soot from the fire pit on my face to smudge a “beard” on my face. I hated that because she would have to scrub and scrub until at least 5 inches of my face had been scrubbed off. The next time she made me wear the soot it was for another performance, but this time it was for ‘Barnacle Bill the Sailor’ and that time she took it off with cold cream. Ew – that was WORSE than the scrubbing!
C: Now, that sounds like grandma!! HAHAHA!
P: Yes, and she made me perform every year after that.
C: Tell me about your first date with mom.
P: It was at A&W.
C: Of course.
P: Yes, she wouldn’t let me spend hardly any money on her. She would let me get her a root beer float, and that was it.
C: That is funny, it doesn’t really sound like the mom, I knew.
P: No, she more than made up for that later, but that was the way she was in the beginning. She just had this funny way of not letting me buy anything for her, which made it difficult when I bought her wedding rings not once, but twice.
C: You bought mom 2 wedding rings I didn’t know that?
P: Yes, that is what got me into trouble.
C: What happened that you would get into trouble for buying a wedding ring?
P: The first time I met your mother, I knew I was going to marry her. So I told her, and she laughed at me.
C: That is funny, did you know that I laughed at Jason when he said I was going to be his wife??
P: I didn’t know that.
C: Yep, it must be genetic!!! How old were you when you said that to mom?
P: Your mother was 13, and I was 17. A year later, in 1972, I was in the Navy, and in San Diego at the time. There was this place called Tyrrell Jewelers. I had been drinking a couple of nights before, and as I was going through my bag I found this receipt; apparently I had purchased a $400 ring from Tyrrell’s, and it was on it’s way to your mother through the mail. Well, when she got the ring she was so excited that she ran in to show her step-mom, and she immediately was upset, and made my mom send the ring back.
C: She had to send it back?? That’s brutal! Is ring # two the ring you have now?
P: Yes, it is. Well, it was 2 years later, and your mom’s step mom was in the hospital with breast cancer, she had waited a year before she even got checked so, by that time it was terminal. Your mom and I were driving to the hospital to visit her, her step brother, Dale, and a friend of the family, Mike were also in the car with us. When we got to the hospital, I told Dale and Mike to get out. They thought I was kidding, so I had to tell them again to get out and they finally got out of the car. I told your mom to close her eyes and put out her hands. I took the new ring set out of it’s box and gently placed it on her 3rd finger of her left hand. I told her she could open her eyes. She saw the ring, grabbed me around the neck, and screamed really loudly in my ear.
C: I guess that means she said ‘Yes’! π
P: Well, there’s more. We found out that your mom’s stepmom, Marion, had 6 months left to live. Marion pulled me aside, and said that there was no way that she was going to let Cathy go live with her “bastard” father when she dies. So she asked me if I was serious about marrying your mom. I said I was, and she said, “no, I mean are you REALLY serious about marrying Cathy?” I said of course! So, she asked if I would marry mom now? I said yes, I would. So Marion sent me out of the room and told me to send Cathy in so she could tell her. I went into the other room, and waited. He then heard mom sqealing in the other room, and they got married.
Ten days later I was on cruise, and 6 1/2 months later I saw your mom, who was pregnant with you, and she was very fat.
C: Dad, you don’t say that about a pregnant woman!!
P: Well, I had never had a pregnant wife before, so I didn’t know what to expect.
C: Well, that is a good thing because she was 16 and you were only 21 when I was born!!!
Ok, Dad, if you had words of wisdom that you would like to pass on for future generations, what would those words be?
P: 1) Stay in school 2) Learn as much as you can 3) Treat other people the way you want to be treated 4) Don’t argue for arguments sake
C: What if you know you are right?
P: Then make sure you have proof.
C: Do you have any other words of wisdom you would like to share?
P: Yes, sweat the petty things, just don’t pet the sweaty things.
C: Ew- Gross, Dad!!!
Well, there you have it! A small glimpse into who my dad is! I hope this is not my last interview with him. We really had a GREAT time doing this!!! He is funny, and charming, and just really a hoot!! I love that Daddy-O of mine!!!!
Aloha nui loa, Daddy!!!
Before I leave for the night, I wanted to share one last inspirational thing that I saw on America’s Got Talent this evening (I watched it off of the DVR), but this little clip had me weeping like a baby – I hope it is just hormones!!! *SNIFF!* π
I am really excited to tell you how the weekend with my dad and I at the beach house went!! We had sooo much fun, and really crammed a lot into a really short time!!
We met in Lincoln City at the casino, had dinner, and headed straight over to the little beach house. After deciding who was sleeping where, we headed over to the ocean front, where we just spent some time taking in the ocean. Later that evening my Dad and I decided to head over to the local movie theater, where we watched The Karate Kid, which my dad and I both agreed was a really good movie!!
The next morning, we went out to breakfast, then off to do a little shopping!!! You know that is one of my FAVORITE PASTIMES!!
A few of the treasures I found:
A vintage silk, Parisian hat box
A fur scarf – I know it is tre-risque, but I LOVE this scarf, and I figure that I am doing my part to recycle! π
A Vintage fashion magazine, circe 1929 – I am sooooo in LOVE with this magazine!!
and finally, I found this little gold compact that is a mirror with a hidden lipstick holder! So sweet and VERY AUDREY!!! I have to see if I can find a mini lipstick mold and make my own lipstick to put in this compact!!! I just HAVE to find a way to use this!!
After antiquing, my dad and I made a quick run to the used book store, and I ended up walking away empty handed – LONG STORY!! but, oh well! I made up for that today, by making a LOOOONG stop over at the Goodwill over here and picking up some tomes for my reading pleasure!!!
Surprise, Daddy!! π
Anyway, my dad and I went back to the beach house and took a nice nap! When I woke up I decided to head out to the beach one last time before it got too late. The weather was absolutely perfect!! Sunny, slight breeze – we couldn’t have asked for nicer weather!!
While I was out, I stopped at the grocery store to pick up some groceries for dinner that night, and heard from the grocer that the casino was putting on a huge firework display and that it would be starting in less than an hour and a half. So, I went back to the beach house, and told Dad about the fireworks, and he was TOTALLY IN!!!
After dinner, we went over and got some of the best seats outside of the casino, and sat back and we both thoroughly enjoyed the fireworks display! It was better than what we normally see a the 4th of July. The casino was celebrating it’s 15th anniversary. I am so glad they were – WE HAD A BLAST (no pun intended)!!! π
After that, my dad and I went a played a few slots. After winning $1.75, yes, I know – I declined a security escort because I figured I would be safe walking to the car as long as I moved quickly! *WINK!* we headed back to the beach house!!!
On our last morning of the weekend, my dad and I headed to Newport so that we could go to church, and then we went out for a nice lunch together! BTW, I did get that interview I was so hoping for – I will post that tomorrow!!! π
I love my dad, and I am just sooo thankful that he is in my life, and that we have such a fun time whenever we get together! I know that this weekend will be one that I will cherish in my memory for the rest of my life – I hope that it is not the last!!
Here are some more of my ocean pictures I took this weekend! π
