Artist Date Nights and Paris!

Paris Was a WomanGood evening!

Thursday nights in our house is artist date night, which means my sweetie goes out to spend some times with the guys, and I squirrel away doing something creative, like maybe some arting, or watching a fabulous movie, or taking myself out to see something beautiful!

Tonight I have chosen to watch what I am hoping will be a fabulous movie!! That movie is called Paris was a Woman, directed by Greta Schiller. The NetFlix description of this movie says,

“With home movies and intimate storytelling, this documentary re-creates the mood of Paris’s unique female artistic community between the World Wars.”

You may not know this about me, but I have always had a love affair with all things French!! I may have been born an American, I have always been a Francophile at heart!!!

I love…

the people,
the culture,
the architecture,
the history,
the sense of community,
the pace,
the countryside,
the language,
the fashion,
the food,
the music,
I LOVE IT ALL!!

Ok, well, since I have never actually been to France yet, I love the idea of all of the marvelously beautiful things!! I love watching French movies, I love reading French books, and I just adore French music!!

So, tonight for my artist date, I have decided to submerge myself some more into my love of all things French by watching this movie!!

Here is to a FABULOUSLY ARTSY evening!! πŸ˜‰

Blurry pic, but you get the idea!!! πŸ˜‰

Good evening!

I know it is quite later than usual, but I just got home from a fun evening having out with my bestie, Dawn and her daughter, Sammy!!

We started the evening out over at one of our favorite hangouts, Starbuck’s. Dawn has asked me to teach her how to crochet, so this evening that was the plan! She is very determined to learn how to crochet a hat, like the one Jason had made for me. After doing a little crocheting and catching up, we had decided that maybe going to the movies would be a good idea! Well, Jason had gone out with his friend, Don, to go watch the new Sherlock Holmes movie this evening, and when I mentioned that to Dawn, and Sam, they had said they had wanted to see that. After thinking about it, I realized I did too, so I quickly texted Jason to make sure that he wouldn’t mind that us girls come and crash his movie. Jason is so laid back and easy going, of course he didn’t mind! So, off us girls went to go watch us a movie. It was a very good movie too! One that I am sure that Jason and I will be watching again!! Now, we didn’t sit with the guys, I mean come on, it was just me and the girls afterall, but we really had a good time!!! So, I left the theatre with Jason and Don, while Dawn and Sammy drove back to their place!!

After dropping Don off at his place, Jason and I finally made it home. Jay made me a little dinner – I was too busy visiting to realize that I had forgotten to eat dinner, and as I sit here I am just soooo thankful that it is Friday, and that we get to sleep in tomorrow! It has been such a loooooong week, and I am just bushed!!!

I don’t have any real plans for this weekend, except to get the house clean and finish getting ready for Christmas, but first I am going to head upstairs and get a good night’s sleep!

Have a FABULOUS evening! :-)

Oh Hugo, I Think I’m In Love!

Good evening!

My sweetie and I just got home after watching the movie Hugo, with our friend Errin! Let me just start out by saying what a FABULOUS movie!!!!

This movie is adapted from the children’s book The Invention of Hugo Cabret, by Brian Selznick, which I can honestly say is one of my all-time favorite books. When I first discovered it, I couldn’t afford a copy, so I literally stayed in the bookstore all day so that I could read this enchanting story. It is filled with half words, and half pictures that are done so beautifully you almost feel as if you are already watching a movie. So, needless to say, I had high hopes for this movie going into this evening.

So, for my thoughts on this movie…

This movie, Hugo, although marketed towards children, in my opinion is a movie for grown ups! I can see children getting bored with it because the story is rather complex, which as an adult just adds to the mystery of this magical story. With that said, let me also tell you that the movie is also inspiring, hopeful, visually rich, and is very true to the book, which I JUST LOVE!!!

Hugo is set in Paris, in the 30’s, so the scenery, the hair, makeup, and fashions are a feast for the eyes! And the 3-D, which is oftentimes seemingly an afterthought in most 3-D movies only enhanced the story as it was artfully done and helped whisk you right into the story alongside Hugo!Β  It also has a very strong positive message about family, not running away from your past even if you have had difficulties in life, and a reminder to us all the we all have a purpose here on earth, and that it is up to each one of us to discover what that is, and to decide whether or not we will strive to live up to that purpose.

So, I said it when I started tonight’s post, and I will say it again, what a FABULOUS movie!! This will be one that I will be adding to our collection, and already look forward to seeing it again! If any of you have already, or are planning on seeing this film, I would LOVE to hear your thoughts!!! πŸ˜‰

Have a FABULOUS evening!! πŸ˜‰

The Ya-Ya Sisterhood!

Good evening!

I just got up to my art studio, and turned on the tele for some background noise, and what did I happily see was playing? One of my favorite movies, The Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood. I just LOVE this movie, as well as this same story is my absolute FAVORITE book, which is saying a lot since I so have so many favorites.

I think my draw to this movie is that I have always dreamed of having a small intimate group of women who all share their lives with each other. A band of sisters who are there for each other through thick and thin! Now that I have re-read this sentence after writing this, I realize that I kind of do have this little sisterhood in my own life, we just live kind of far from each other! But, just knowing that I have got my own sisters out there, it makes me realize how much more special I think this movie is.

Besides the sisterhood itself, I think my favorite part of this movie is the pomp and circumstance surrounding the Ya-Ya Sisterhood ceremonies, with it’s candlelight and self-made crowns. I can just imagine the girls sitting in a circle, the air crackling with positive energy and hope, I can hear the giggling as Vivi tries to keep them all in character, in her dramatic way – of course I would be Vivi in this scene. But of course, DAHLING!! πŸ˜‰

Anyway, I digress! πŸ™‚ I wanted to tell you about my day today. I went to work, as usual, but then I had a doctors appointment this afternoon. I have a really hard time going to the doctors. I feel like I am just complaining when I go, becauseΒ  I know there are people out there who have much larger problems then I do! I want to just skim over whatever is going on with myself, which usually means I don’t say what is the real reason I came into the office.

Does anyone else have this issue?

Is it just me??

And it isn’t my doctor – I LOVE my doctor!! She is one of those people who has the BEST kind of bedside manner, and she doesn’t mind explaining things over and over for you, or answering all of my questions. So what is the big deal?? I would love to hear your experiences with your physician!!

Anyway, I know this is kind of a jumpy posting tonight, but I am so tired! I feel like I am recouping from jet-lag from our vacation these past 2 weeks, so I will have to ask for your forgiveness!! I am going to go spend some more time cleaning up my art studio – slow and steady wins the race!!

Have a FABULOUS evening!

A Short Post Before Hitting the Hay!

Good evening!

I am so tired! My sweetie and I went out with our friends, Dawn and Errin, this evening! We went and saw Captain America, in 3D. Yes, I know we just saw that a few days ago, but anything to hang out with my bestie,Β  Dawn!! Captain America is super hot! Jason and I are stilled amazed that they were able to make him start out as a puny-pipsqueak-type guy, but turn him into the hunkiest-buff-meisters ever! Yes, you heard me – that is my official geekdom, shining through!!

Anyway, it is EXTREMELY late, and if I don’t climb into bed within the next few minutes I fear I will never be able to get out of bed on time tomorrow morning, and being late for work is just not an option right now!! πŸ˜‰

Sometimes you just gotta listen to your body, so off to bed I go!!

Have a FABULOUS evening! πŸ˜‰

NOTE TO CHUNKY DUNKERS: Did you think I would forget about you??? NO WAY!!! I will see you all here tomorrow evening at 7 PM! I can’t wait to hear how everyone is doing!! Toodles until then!! πŸ˜‰

Nesting on a Saturday Night!

Good evening!

I am having quite a lovely evening at home hanging out with my sweetie! I am busy running around the house, nesting my little heart out. Redecorating, reorganizing, arranging fresh flowers, and generally just having a GREAT time!! I feel like I am totally in my element right now!!!

Jason and I went to lunch with a friend of ours, and then the three of us went to the movies and watched Captain America. Good movie, by the way – Captain America was EXTREMELY HOT! πŸ˜‰ I can’t wait to see the movie, The Avengers next Summer. There is something about the idea of Stark, Thor, and Captain America in the same movie – YUM!! Ok, so apparently I revert back to a teenage girl at a moments’ notice! πŸ˜‰

After dropping our friend, Don, off. Jason and I headed over to Borders to see if there were any good deals to be had, which I am happy to say that there were. πŸ˜‰ I did pick up a few books, but I didn’t stick around at all because it is not longer “my” Borders. I think I will make one more pitstop in about two weeks or so, there are a couple of literature books that I am really looking forward to adding to my collection, but if I can get them at a better deal, then it will be worth it to me to wait for it!

I wanted to tell you that the pictures this evening are all taking of my favorite building downtown. This building is the building that houses the US Bank downtown. It is called the Ladd and Bush Bank building, and was built in 1867. Isn’t it lovely??

As I finish toodling around the house tonight…

Have a FABULOUS evening! πŸ˜‰

A Magical Evening!

Good evening!!

Tonight Jason and I, along with our friends Dawn and Errin went out to watch the new movie Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II, in 3D. This movie, in my opinion, was the best movie of the entire Harry Potter franchise. Even though I have read the books quite a few times, so I pretty much knew how everything was going to end, I still found myself on the edge of my seat and talking to the movie screen as if somehow I could miraculously change the fates of the characters in the movie!

It is so strange to think that this book and movie series, that have been such a mainstream part of our lives for the past many years, is coming to a close. It is the end of an era. The Harry Potter series was the book series that got me excited about reading again, and not only reading, but reading and talking about what I have read with friends, and family. I heard this evening, a rumor really, that JK Rowling was talking about possibly doing another book series involving the next generation of characters. I think that it would be pretty cool to see more details about what happens next in the Harry Potter world, but I am not sure what kind of conflict could possibly arise, after everything that the characters have gone through with Voldemort – the really nasty, evil villain in the series – for those of you who have somehow managed to stay buried under a rock all this time and still do not know! πŸ˜‰ I think that it would be pretty cool to see more details about what happens next in the Harry Potter world, but I am not sure what kind of conflict could possibly arise, after everything that the characters have gone through with Voldemort – the really nasty, evil villain in the series – for those of you who have somehow managed to stay buried under a rock all this time and still do not know! πŸ˜‰ I am not sure if there are going to be additional books or not, but I do know that her website Pottermore.com is up an taking registrations for a new kind of adventure with the Harry Potter series, I can’t wait to see what it is.

Talking about villains, didn’t you just LOVE Snape??? This movie made everything he did for Lilly Potter, hence also for Harry Potter so amazing! He made the ultimate sacrifice for all that he loved. I just love his character, having to play both sides of the coin without ever getting caught by the bad guys, and Alan Rickman, one of my favorite actors by the way, plays him just beautifully!!

Anyway, I am going to leave you with this preview of the last 2 movies which comproses of the last book split into two movies!

Enjoy!!

Have a FABULOUS evening! πŸ˜‰

Note to Chunky Dunkers: I will see you tomorrow evening!! πŸ˜‰

Friday Night Double Date!!!

Good evening!

I have had such a good day!!

My boss very generously gave me the afternoon off, and my friends Errin and Dawn picked me up so that I could join them on their drive up to Portland. I just LOVE Portland. Anyway, Errin had a business meeting, which gave Dawn and I some time to go hang out, have a nice long lunch, and do a little window shopping in Lloyd Center!

After we all got back into Salem, we met with my sweetie for dinner at the Road House (we love shucking the peanut shells onto the floor) and then all headed over to the movies. The idea was that they guys would go to a movie of their choice, and the girls would go to a movie of their choice. Well, it just happens to be that both the guys and the girls had decided to watch the same movie…

I Am Number Four.

What a FABULOUS movie! We really enjoyed it!! The movie did a great job investing you in the characters. It was easy to believe that the main hero, and his guardian had had a long standing bond, and you wanted the main romance to work out from the get go, well, at least I did!!! πŸ˜‰

If you get the chance to go see this movie, do it! I don’t think you will be disappointed!!

Have a FABULOUS evening! πŸ˜‰

Mamma Mia!!

Have you ever wanted to step foot right inside of a movie??? I watched Mamma Mia with my sis, Alex, and I have to tell you – that movie NEVER gets old!!! Every time I watch it I can’t help but want to join in all the fun!

I just LOVE all the bright colors in this movie!! I was wondering what my place would look like if I were to use this movie as my MUSE to decorate… this is what I came up with:

That was fun!

Have a FABULOUS evening! πŸ˜‰
