My Blue Phase!

Good evening!

This is going to be a short post, I am busy happily spending time visiting with my sister while her and her husband are up for the week! In the meantime, I wanted to make sure that I shared with you one of my most recently finished art pieces.

This was made using ink, stamps, join compound, gel medium, tissue paper, ink pen, and acrylic paints.

This piece is my first steps into the world of mixed media and various texture techniques. I think for my first piece this turned out pretty well. I am happy with how it turned out, and I can’t wait to see how my next textural piece turns out. I will make sure to share pics!! πŸ˜‰

Here’s to a FABULOUS evening!

If you want to have a different life, you have to live differently

Back in the Art Studio!

Good evening!

I have been busily and happily arting away in my little art studio, and am very happy to finally be able to share something that I have finished with you! πŸ˜‰

This piece is made on a square of plywood, my sweetie cut for me, and the materials I used were: acrylic paints, tissue paper, stamps, ink, gel medium, and fine tip marker.

This saying is something that I have been really focusing on while taking my Brave Girls Club class, “The real you is still in there you just need to give yourself permission to come out and play”. It is something that I really needed to hear, and something that I have always known, but had somehow forgotten along the way. It was a message that I am so thankful that I have stumbled upon again, and am actively working on putting it to good use in my life!

This piece came about because I wanted to paint something happy! I also wanted to play with some new techniques I have been learning, and one of those that I am really, very glad with the way that it turned out, and that is the little doodles that are all over the piece. I think the doodling really adds a little more of me into my art.

I actually started this piece over many times, remembering that I could always change something that I didn’t like about it at any given time. This was something really hard for me to do, because I am such a perfectionist and always want to have everything done perfectly the first time. I think, in doing that, this piece has really helped me give myself permission to love the imperfections that may come out, they may add so much interest that they become your favorite parts!

After this piece was finished, I was so excited about it, I put my bravery muscles on and took it to display at work, and I am so glad I did! It is really exciting to look up from a very technical job, and see something that you were able to come up with in a 100% creative way!

Life is good!!

I would love to hear your thoughts about this in the comments section! I am hoping to have more to share in the next few days!

Here’s to a FABULOUS evening!

Tag, I’m It!

Good evening!

Yes, you have heard correctly, I have been tagged, and by my lovely friend, and fellow up-and-coming artist, Janet Forrest from Tattered’nWorn – Thank you so very much, Janet!!! I am just tickled pink!! πŸ˜‰ In turn, I am going to “tag” some of you too, and hope that you will play along too! πŸ˜‰

The Rules
…you must post the rules
…answer 11 questions the tagger posted for you
…create 11 questions to ask the people you tag
…tag 11 people
…let them know you’ve tagged them

Here are the questions I was asked:

The questions I’ve asked them:

  1. If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be? Oh man, this is such a tough one…not that this is so great for me, but I am such a sucker for chicken alfredo with broccoli – hands down my favorite food!!
  2. When you are creating, what do you have going in the background? Pandora!!! I just LOVE my Adelle radio station that I have created, it has artists like Adelle, Ingrid Michaelson, Duffy, Sara Bareilles, etc. All music that really makes me want to move!! πŸ˜‰
  3. Do you have a decorating style, and if so, what is it? E-C-L-E-C-T-I-C!!! I love soooo many different styles: shabby chic, contemporary, mid-century; basically if I love it, I figure it must all belong together!! God bless my husband, he is sooooo laid back about all that – he wouldn’t care if the house was all pink, as long as he had a comfy chair to read in!! πŸ˜‰
  4. If you could live anywhere in world, where would it be? The French countryside! I have never even been there, but it just seems like there is such a better quality of life there, where people and experiences are the focus, and not so much do more, be more, have more!
  5. What would you do with your lottery winnings? Buy a farm, travel the world, and start my business – in that order!
  6. What is you very favorite saying? “What are you doing?” Seriously, this really drives my husband crazy!! I just don’t want to ever miss out on anything!! πŸ˜‰
  7. What are you most looking forward to? Seeing where this artistic journey of mine is going to lead me. I feel really GREAT things heading my way!! πŸ˜‰
  8. What is your favorite outdoor activity? Well, this would have to be either playing on the beach at the ocean, or picnicking in the park – both are soooo much fun! πŸ˜‰
  9. Do you consider yourself politically aware? No, not so much. I care, but am just too busy to hear everyone’s side of issues
  10. What is your most prized possession? Ooh, this one is another hard one – it is a toss up between two things: my mother’s dresser, or a carved wooden jewelry box my dad bought for me oversees when I was a little girl!
  11. If you knew the world would end tomorrow, how would you spend today? I would want to round up all of my loved ones, and just spend the day talking about how great they all are, and how much I love them!! πŸ˜‰

Now, β€œTag! You’re it!” I hope you’ll play!

These are the lovely ladies I’ve tagged! I hope you’ll visit them, whether they play or not!

  2. What is your favorite way to unwind?
  3. When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
  4. What was the scariest thing you did today?
  5. If you were stranded on a desert island, what three things would you need to have with you?
  6. Do you have an electronic gadget that you just cannot live without? What is it?
  7. If you could have a maid come to your house for the rest of your life, but they would only ever do one chore – what chore would you have them do?
  8. If you boarded a jet in 10 minutes to go wherever in the world you wanted to go, where would you go?
  9. If your best friend asked you to go get matching tattoos with her, right now, would you do it? If so, what would the tattoo be?
  10. If you and your best friend were to ever end up in jail for the night, what scenario would have caused the trouble? AKA, how would you have ended up there?
  11. If you had the choice to be reincarnated as a cat or a dog, which would you choose? Why?

I hope you have fun playing!!! πŸ˜‰

Coming Up For Air!

Good Evening!

Queen Christina here! Yes, proudly wearing my royal crown this evening!! Having a great evening, finally getting my peppy-self back to living again!!!! I wanted to make sure to check in this evening! After being down sick for the past two weeks, I am still not 100%, but I am back up and running! and REALLY READY to get back to BLISS!! πŸ˜‰

As many of you may know, I love sharing everything that is going on in my world, which I realize might seem contradictory since I have been posting very sporadically lately, but I do have a reason! You see, besides being sick for the past 2 weeks, I have been doing something REALLY EXCITING!!! For the past 5 weeks I have been taking the Brave Girls’ Club Soul Restoration class online. This amazing class has forced me to delve into the inner workings of my soul and, through arting, discover more about myself Β than I ever thought possible. Truly!

If you have never hear of the Brave Girls Club, or the Soul Restoration I Class, I highly recommend popping over to the Brave Girls’ site and checking them out!!! Better yet, pinch your pennies together and sign up for their next available class ASAP!!! I have been ah-ha-ing every step of the way, through every tutorial, every lesson, every homework assignment. I honestly feel AMAZINGLY BLESSED to have found this class when I did! I am so enamored with the whole process, Melody Ross (our lovely and fearless leader), and the entire Brave Girls Club team, that I have already signed up for part two of the class, which starts in April!! YEAH BRAVE GIRLS!!! πŸ˜‰

The art I have been busily creating for the past few weeks, unfortunately, is not shareable! Because these pieces are so powerful, and yet so personal, I had made the decision that these pieces would be just for my eye eyes only. That way, I can completely take the fear factor out of arting, and just create what is truly going on inside of my soul. The good news, however, is that in the simple act of just creating without fear of judgement, I find that I am growing braver, and am inspired to start arting again to share with the blogging world.

In all of this, I am not sure where I am going to end up, but right now, I just want to be happy, and free, and arting has really opened that door for me, which I am soooo thankful for!! So, although I have nothing I can share this evening, I am happily, and busily spending time watching tutorials, trying new things, and hopefully within the next couple of days, I will have some new to share with you!! πŸ˜‰

I truly can’t wait!! πŸ˜‰

So, without further ado, I am going to get back into my art studio, and get to creating!! I can’t wait to talk to you again soon!!

Here is to a FABULOUS evening! πŸ˜‰

The Salem Oregon Train Station

Good evening!

Yesterday, after work, I had some time and I decided I would make good use of it by going down to the Salem train station. It is one of my absolute favorite buildings in all of Salem, matter of fact, if it weren’t for the fact that it is right next to the train tracks, I could imagine myself and my sweetie converting this building into our home.

I did a little bit of reading this evening to see what I can find out about this building, and I discovered that not only is it on the National Historic Registry, but it is actually the third train station built in this location, the first two having burnt to the ground in both 1885, and 1917.

This building was actually built in 1918, and is one of only 5 of the original masonry buildings that still exist on the original Southern Pacific West Coast Line.

Although quite small on the inside, at least from where I was standing, there are some really beautiful architectural details on the inside of this building too. I especially loved the light fixtures, which there were two of, hanging from the high ceilings of the depot.

The outside isn’t too shabby either! There was a massive restoration project done by the Oregon Department of Transportation that was completed in 2000. The style of this building is called Beaux-Arts-style.

There are so many architectural details to see, that I walked around this building 3 times catching new elements with my eye and camera each time I circled the building.

It was such an amazingly sunny afternoon, and I was absolutely struck how vividly blue our normally grey sky was. It was quite breathtaking.

Another fun fact about this building is that Amtrak rents this building from the government for only $1 a year, in exchange for building and ground maintenance. Isn’t that amazing??? I think that is PHENOMENAL!! πŸ˜‰

Here are some more of those great architectural details. I am absolutely in LOVE with these pillars, have been since I was a little girl, but it was only by taking these pictures that I was able to notice the detail at the top of these stately columns.

See what I mean? And I just adore the molding around the top of the building too. They don’t make buildings like this any longer!

These are the original light fixtures. They are ginormous! And although I don’t really show it well here, the arched windows are really quite astonishingly beautiful!

Here is some more detail at the base of the pillars.

Finally, here is one of the front corners of the building! I had so much fun investigating this lovely piece of Salem’s history.

I literally drive by this building every day, and I almost forget that it is even there. This experience has inspired me to make an effort to purposefully go out and find out what other great buildings from history are out there just waiting to be rediscovered!! Who knew history could be so fun!?? I can’t wait to see what I find next!!

Have a FABULOUS evening!!! ;-)

Finding Inspiration!

Good evening!

I have had a VERY nice weekend!! The house is clean, the chores are done, and I have been soaking up all sorts of inspirational and positive messages all weekend!! I have had a great time with my sweetie baking, trying new recipes, going out on the town, taking a ton of pictures, going out with our girlfriend, Rachel, and catching up! Having a nice lazy day today, re-energizing before my work week starts. The only way I can sum it up is that life is good!!

I am busy planning some new decorating projects for our little place. I am excited to get both my energy and my creative mojo back!! Some things I inspired to do/make for our little place:

  1. A faux fireplace to our master bedroom
  2. Use a long and low bookcase to create an entry way into our home
  3. Painting vertical stripes on one wall in our dining room
  4. Wallpapering a small hallway with damask paper
  5. Hanging a family/friends photo gallery up our stairway
  6. Tiling the walls in our kitchen with white subway tiles
  7. Hanging a new chandelier in our dining room
  8. Adding bead board to our kitchen island
  9. Creating a burlap wreath
  10. Creating a new tabletop for our dining room table using reclaimed barn wood
  11. Refinishing our French inspired coffee table

Hmmmm…I am sure that the sky, and my imagination are the limit! I can not wait to share my results with you!!! πŸ˜‰

Have a FABULOUS evening!!! πŸ˜‰

Some New Books!

Good evening!

My sweetie and I got home from work this evening, and I was very happily surprised to see that I had not one, but two packages in the mail!! BOOKS!!! Yeah!! πŸ˜‰

Last week I finally broke down and ordered 4 books that I have been drooling over for quite some time now!!

Life is a Verb by Patti Digh

Creative is a Verb by Patti Digh

Surface Treatment Workshop by Darlene Olivia McElroy & Sandra Duran Wilson

and last, but not least:

Simple Soldered Jewelry and Accessories by Lisa Bluhm

I normally would not buy 4 new books at a get-go, not since my Border’s days anyway, but these were at such a great discounted price on Amazon, that there was no way that I could make myself pass them up!! Anyway, I am so excited to read them, and put their knowledge to good use!! I most definitely need to keep creativity alive in my life! It makes me a happy girl!!!

What else is going on in my little world?? Well, I have implemented a daily chore chart – I think I had mentioned that I was going to do that in an earlier post – and I did, and my sweetie and I really liking it! We don’t have to guess what still needs done, and we both get a sense of accomplishment when we get to cross out things off of our list! Besides our Christmas stuff being scattered all over the living room (still working on re-organizing that), our house is now the cleanest that it has been in weeks!! YEAH!!! πŸ˜‰

Tomorrow night is Chunky Dunker’s night here in Christinaville, and then on Thursday night, I am planning on sharing some pics with you of my niece and nephew’s basketball games that we got to go to this past Saturday! I know you will love them!

Anyway, I am going to get some try and make some more headway on getting this Christmas stuff put away before we call it a night!!

Have a FABULOUS evening! :-)

You Have to Start Somewhere!

Good evening

I wasn’t planning on posting tonight, and I know that I have been out for the past couple of evenings. I have been having a rough few days; a pretty bad case of “the mean reds” a la Breakfast at Tiffany’s, if you know what that means?

Anyway,Β  I have a dream – not a Martin Luther King Jr grand kind of a dream, but a small, made just for me and my little family kind of dream. I have been wallowing, because I really just didn’t know how I was going to make my little dream come true, and then this evening, I ran across a post that said…

You Have to Start Somewhere!

That one little phrase got me to thinking; I need to start somewhere, which is right here, right now, and with what I have on hand, which happens to be quite a lot!! My word for 2012 is Freedom, but true freedom is not going to happen because I wish it to happen!! I have got to stop sniveling, and whining, and I have got to start taking some action. So, here I am, shouting it out to the universe that I am ready to stop talking and start doing.

I have to go grab a pen and some paper and get a rough plan out on paper!!! Here’s to making my little dreams come true!!!

Have a FABULOUS day! :-)

Getting Back to the Artist Within!

Good evening!

I am having the best kind of quiet evening at home!! πŸ˜‰ My sweetie picked me up from work, and as soon as I got home, I got busy cooking a healthy dinner for the two of us. It was a new little ditty that I kind of dreamed up, thinking that the combo sounded really veggie-sentric, filling, but still very delicious!! For my sis,Alex, who I know will be reading this and will want to know EXACTLY what I made, this is for you!!

  • Prepare 2 servings of whole wheat angel hair pasta – enough for each person to have about 1 cup of cooked pasta!
  • Next steam about 1 1/2 cups of diced broccoli – leaving it a little on the crunchy side (just a little though!)
  • Slice 1 1/2 cups of cherry tomatoes in half
  • Cube two boneless skinless chicken breasts
  • and dice about a third of a large sweet onion

Here comes the fun part! The putting it all together!!! πŸ˜‰

In a medium-sized saute pan, pour 1 or 2 tablespoons of olive oil, and heat over low to medium heat. Once heated, add 1/2 of the diced onions and sautee them until they are clear. Next add one chicken breast worth of the chunked chicken, and cover with lid, while stirring frequently to brown chicken. Keep an eye on it at this point, so you don’t accidentally dry out your chicken.

Once your chicken has cooked through, add 1/2 of the steamed broccoli, and 1/2 of the slice cherry tomatoes. Heat thoroughly. Then add 1 cup of pasta, and toss until all ingredients have been warmed back up. Add 1/2 a cup of your favorite store-bought Alfredo white sauce (we used Bertolli’s – YUMMY!!) Toss a few times to coat all ingredients!!

Serve immediately with some freshly sliced French bread, that has been sprinkled with some good olive oil and sprinkled with some fresh cracked pepper.

Let me tell you, it was ABSOLUTELY DELISH!!! πŸ˜‰

This meal was TOTALLY healthy, very Weight Watchers friendly, and my sweetie LOVED it too!! Here is the kicker though, I wasn’t able to get a picture of the dish – my camera should be here within 2 weeks, I really can’t wait!! and when I make it again, I will make sure to share a pic then!! πŸ˜‰

As for this evening, I am going to continue my night of flexing my creativity muscles by spending the evening up in my art studio – something I haven’t done in literally MONTHS!! and play! Play! PLAY!!

I will make sure to keep you posted!! πŸ˜‰

Have a FABULOUS evening! :-)
