The Chunky Dunker’s Club, Week 5

Good evening!

Welcome to week 5, of the Chunky Dunker’s Club!!! Can you believe it has been Five weeks already??

Every week I post a new Chunky Dunker’s article ever Wednesday evening, and you have the opportunity to comment, and cheer each other as you each go through your journey to get fit and healthy!!! We will discuss hints, tips, and ideas on losing weight, staying motivated, and achieving your fitness goals, whether that is to lose 5 pounds, to do 10 sit-ups, or just incorporate some healthy habits into your daily life!!

Before I get on tonight’s topic, I am VERY HAPPY to report that I have lost 7.2 pounds since our very first week!!!! YEAH!!!

Tonight’s topic: Tracking Your Way Towards Progress

By no means am I an expert in this area, but I am coming to realize that tracking your journey could be the key to your fitness success. The primary benefit of logging your diet and exercise is motivation. It is much easier to stay on track if you can look back after sticking to your program for a period of time and see that you’ve lost several pounds or shaved a few seconds off your routine neighborhood run; and if you should keep your weekly weight on a simple chart, then you can see that descending line or the ascending graph of your weight loss progress. These visual cues are reminders that you are taking small steps each and every day toward your larger goal and it’s working.

Having your diet and exercise plan in writing greatly increases your chances of sticking to them versus simply trying to “cut back” on unhealthy foods or “exercise more”. Defined goals and plans to reach those goals will ensure that you achieve what you wish. Sometimes your mind will tell you that you’ve been exercising regularly when you can look back at your training log and see clearly and definitively that you’ve only averaged one workout per week for the past month. I find that when I track my food, I actually have eaten more than what I thought I had, or eaten more of the wrong things, then what my memory could recollect, which is why writing it down has become key for me.

Whether your goal is to lose 10 pounds by next summer, lower your blood pressure by 5 points, or shave 30 seconds off your weekly club 10k time trial, you will need a plan. By tracking your exercise times, distance, diet, measurements, feelings, and any other thoughts or goings on a daily basis you will be in a much better position to understand what you need to do to reach your goal.

There are many ways you can start tracking your progress. There are many online tools that you can use, my personal favorite is LiveStrong.com Thier . Or, you can keep your details in a journal, spiral notebook, or some other paper-based device – the choice is yours. I personally track my food and exercise using LiveStrong.com’s My Plate (which is free, btw) and I journal for the most part either on paper, or on my daily blog, which most of you already read. πŸ™‚ I weigh and measure every Wednesday morning, and I LOVE keeping that progress in a simple Excel graph! Being visual it is GREAT motivation to keep doing a good job!
So, tell me what you think?? Is tracking your progress something that you might want to do? If so how, and what are you going to start tracking? Also, how has your Kaizen assignment been going from last week? Also, I want to know what is working, and what isn’t working with our Chunky Dunker’s Club. Do you have any ideas that might help us make our group more successful? I am always up for suggestions!!
With that, I am going to wrap it up, and we can open up our discussion in the comment section of this posting!
Have a FABULOUS evening!! πŸ˜‰

Hello sister! Today was a much better day at work today. I wore my Nike flip flops all the way to my desk and put on a new pair of cushie sandals. SO my feet are doing much better.
I am having to walk 2 or so blocks from the parking garage to my bldg and then do it all over again to get back to my van. So there you go….I am exercising and my back get tired and I am breathing heavy.
I am doing really good with what I am putting in my mouth/body and since I left Oregon, I have lost 20 lbs. WAHOOO!!! I have way too much weight to get rid of!
I need to do a better job of journaling my food, but again I am very cautious on what is going in my mouth and how much.

Hey guys, I had a better week. I ate better and I have recouped a lot from being sick. I like the idea of tracking…..a little at first I think is best for me.

    1. Alexa Moody

Me too. I need to go get a notebook just for food journaling.
I am happy to hear that you are feeling better Jaybird and that you are doing good.

      1. Alexa Moody

I will. I have the one you did for me, but I want that for something else…not food. LOL!

    2. Jennifer

You have always looked like a stud to me, but you will look more like Thor when you are done.

      1. Alexa Moody

LOL! Jen you are on fire! You are a stud muffin though bro! Remember your wife and women in general think you are YUMMY…..

  3. Jason

Good job sis. 20 pounds may not seem like much…but go to the store and try carting around 4-5lb bags of potatoes and you will feel the extreme difference.

    1. Alexa Moody

NO SHIZZLE!!!! Like my mom says, “I lose weight like a man.” That is because I have a ton of it. LOL!

I have eaten so much food tonight, I am going to have to take another walk tonight just to make up for it!! πŸ˜‰ Jason, you want to join me???

    1. Alexa Moody

What did you have for dinner sis/bro? I am eating two slices of sprouted sourdough bread with a very delicious (very light mayo) seafood salad with peppercinis and alfalfa sprouts and grapes and water with lemon.

I am ashamed to say, we had Safeway Chinese food!! So good, but we will be paying for that later!!! Plus I had 2 servings, so not only will I be hanging out on the toity tonight, I will be bloated like a fiend tomorrow!!! πŸ˜‰

      2. Alexa Moody

Oh wow! Yeah you will be paying for that. Great job on losing the 7.5 lbs sweetie!!! That’s awesome!!!

  5. Jason

I am hoping that I can get some more work to keep me active. I could use a few Lawn jobs. Following a mower is a great way to work out.
    And @ 440+lbs I have a LOT to lose to get to 300ish. I mean that’s like a 1 1.5 super models.

  6. Jason

They are all around us, you just have to be quick to see em. They like to hide behind trees and light poles, and pretty much anything that’s tall enough and big enough to hide them. So almost anything.

  7. Jennifer

So I didnt lose any weight from last week, but I lost plenty of inches. I still need to lose at least 100lbs before I will look better. Plus it doesnt help that I really, really wanted to lose enough weight before I leave for Cali in the morning.

    1. Alexa Moody

Hi Jen and Trina! Jen don’t beat yourself up okay…. losing inches is a good thing. YOu are just gaining muscle too.

    2. christinaville Post author

Oh, LOL!! M’bad!!! You super model you!!! πŸ˜‰

Are you ready for your trip?? How are you going to keep your fitness plans going while you are gone?

    1. Alexa Moody

OHHHHHH DO I!!! We actually do this….:
1 cup of either soy milk/rice milk or almond milk
we also use a whey protein powder, flaxseed oil, bee pollen and add ice and shake a drink.
For a more fruity flavor we add to that frozen berries and blend it. I do add some water so that it’s no too thick.

      1. Alexa Moody

I even take my organic multivitamin capsule and open up and dump it into my smoothie. I have even added crushed flaxseeds. IT IS SOOOO GOOD and GOOD FOR YOU!

    1. Alexa Moody

Hey Jen…it’s all about trial and error. Trying things out, checking out recipes on line, in magazines, etc.

  8. christinaville Post author

Also, is this club working for everyone? Do you wanna keep it going?? Is there anything you would like to see changed? Stay the same??? I am open to suggestions! πŸ™‚

    1. christinaville Post author

Talking about naked people, a few days ago on one of my posts there is a pic of a plus sized lady in fishnet stockings – one of my co-workers asked if that was me – I WISH!! πŸ˜‰

      1. Alexa Moody

OMG LOL!!! That is funny! I wish I looked like that too. GURLLLLL I would have the brothers lining up at my door.

I love this club and I cannot think of anything that I would change so far.

  9. Jennifer

I have always wanted to lose enough weight that I would have the same body as the girls in the just my size clothing or the haines underwear ads.

      1. Alexa Moody

I am laughing my full head off over here. YEAH! I have one large one on my stomach and some on my sides and on my thighs. I would be more than happy to donate it for science!

and giving up soda – Great first step, Sissy!!! I am becoming a firm believer in baby steps!!! Find an alternate drink like Crystal light or something! Or do like Alex does and add fruit to your water to give it some flavor!!! Just keep working through the cravings, and when they finally do pass, you will be so thankful that you gave up all of that soda!!! πŸ˜‰
