Happy New Year!!! I have spent the evening with my sweetie, my sis, Alex, and our niece, V. Alex has never heard of or seen the television series called Ruby, so we have watched 4 or 5 episodes this evening. I LOVE RUBY!!!! She is such an inspiration!!!! It makes me excited to lose my first 20 pounds, but that is NOT why I decided to post one last time in 2010. I wanted to take one last moment to say…
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
Whatever comes, bring it on 2011 – I am ready!!!!
Here is the day! The last day to get whatever it was you wanted to get done during the year 2010 – if you haven’t gotten it done by now, you’ve got some work to do. As for me, I am getting ready to close the door on 2010, and start over – YEAH!!!!
This past year has been a year of ups and downs, successes and failures, laughter and tears, but all-in-all, I am so thankful to have made it to eagerly anticipate 2011. I have made my New Year’s resolutions – or more specifically my 60 Day Life Makeover goals:
Lose 20 pounds
Sock away an extra $1000 into savings
Find a church home
Clean, organize, and purge our entire home of unloved and/or unused belongings from top to bottom
Purchase and refinish one piece of furniture to sell to get the ball rolling on getting paid to do what I love
These are my actual written goals for the next 60 days, but if I had the ability to wish for one thing, I would wish for happiness – whatever that looks like! So, my goal for the next year is to live my life seeking out true, authentic happiness. I want to laugh more, love more, dance more, hug more, smile more, and just BE HAPPY!!!
Do you have any New Year’s resolutions? I would LOVE to hear about them – please feel free to post them in the comments sections above. π
As for this evening, we have a small group of friends coming over for a casual and impromptu get together, dinner of lasagna (one of my favorites), games, drinks, and maybe a movie, but hopefully lots of fun, and memories!!! We are going to have fun ringin’ in the New Year!!!
To all of you, I wish you an extremely HAPPY and SAFE New Years!!!
My sister, Alex and our niece V just left for the evening! I ALWAYS have so much fun hanging out with Alex!!! She is sooooo much fun! Tonight we watched Amelie, me for the hundreth time and her for the first! I sometimes worry about letting one of my friends watch one of my favorite movies, in case they hate it and think I am crazy. Well, Alex is different, first off she KNOWS I’M CRAZY, so we are cool there!!! π and of course, she LOVED IT TOO!!! It is so much better to watch these movies and have someone to share the laughter with!!! It multiplies your joy!!!
After wowing audiences all over Europe, Amelie, the story about a young woman on a quest to make things better for the people around here, arrives here on domestic shores. The film’s straight moral compass and overreaching sense of whimsy and fantasy are what draws audiences to it.
It is a nice escape from both other movies and events in the real world. ThisΒ film is from Jean-Pierre Jeunet, who always manages to make each film of his look distinctly unique. Here, Paris looks warm, inviting and welcome, matching to tones of Audrey Tautou, who plays the title character. Amelie is a shy young woman, who frequently delves into the world of fantasy. In fact, Amelie plays in a way like a fairy tale complete with narrator.
Amelie discovers a forgotten box in her bathroom. It contains the childhood mementos of a small boy who lived in her apartment years ago. She vows to find the owner and return the box, and if he reacts positively, she will keep doing things to help people. The man tears over with joy, and a new hero is born. She looks at the people around her and decides that she will be the person to make their lives better. Amelie concocts a plan to set up two lonely people, help an elderly painter who lives in her apartment, and help her father emerge from the cocoon he built around himself after the death of Amelie’s mother.
Along the way, she also has time to help a blind man across the street while describing to him the unseen world around him, and to fall in love with Nino, another dreamer. Nino collects torn photographs found underneath picture booths and reassembles them.
Amelie fancies herself as Zorro (in some amusing black and white sequences), which is a fitting description. One of her main projects is to wreak revenge on Collignon, the local grocer. He mercilessly mocks his assistant Lucien. She steals the key to his apartment and does little things to make his life miserable. All of Amelie’s actions, including this one, are to make others feel better. Granted, the actual things she does to Collignon are mainly for laughs. Jeunet and co-writer Guillaume Laurent play these events off more as pranks. Collignon is never truly hurt, only his pride suffers.
One of the reasons Amelie works so well is because of Tautou. She gives an engaging performance, and Jeunet frequently focuses close-up on her face. Tautou is a young actress with an elfin face and perfect alabaster skin, round, expressive eyes and a cute pixie cut. She has a slightly crooked smile that embodies everything that her character is about. Amelie also enters the mind of the title character, bringing forth her fantasies for the audience to see. The animal pictures on her wall talk about her with sympathy, and she turns into water when Nino leaves the room. All of Jeunet and Laurent’s characters are slightly off-kilter. These aren’t typical ‘movie’ characters in that they are not conventionally beautiful or perfect, they are normal people with normal problems. It makes them stand out in Jeunet’s fairy tale world, and it makes it easier to identify with them, and makes Amelie’s efforts all the more meaningful.
I would highly recommend, if you get the chance, to take an hour or two to watch this lovingly charming film – you will not be disappointed!
I have had a long day and am finding that I am having a hard time relaxing for the night, so I thought I would just post some pics that are inspiring me right now.
Enjoy…
Always chic!
If only we could all take this advice.
Whoever invented this is a creative genius.
I have always loved this rug!
Even asleep, Audrey Hepburn was always so chic!
Intriguing!
I would love to remodel an airstream!
You’ve always had the power inside of you!
Isn’t this just darling?
How cute are these?
I couldn’t imagine anything bad happening in these shoes!
I have been giving a lot of thought to the idea of a 60 day life makeover!
Goals, to be successfully achieved have to be measurable, have a target deadline, and have to be believable!
A timed life makeover challenge could be a GREAT push to get me going in the direction that will get me in to where I want to be, but I also can’t try to shoot for so many thing at once, lest I overwhelm myself and give up!!!
My top 5 60-day goals are:
Lose 20 pounds. This body will only carry me for so long, and being at the weight I am is truly starting to become a hindrance, and an anchor to where and what I want to be doing.
Find a church home. I NEED a church home.
Clean, organize, purge my house from top to bottom, so everything in it has a home.
Purchase, refinish, and sell one piece of furniture to slowly but surely get my business off the ground.
Put $1000 extra away to help build my wealth.
There, that wasn’t so hard. WHEW!!! π
So, I will start on January 1, 2011, and I will have 60 days to accomplish these goals. In a day or so, I will come back with these larger goals broken down into weekly smaller actions that will help me attain these goals – Tony Robbins calls this “chunking”, to make larger goals more manageable by chunking them down into smaller bits!!
Do you think it is possible to completely change the direction of your life in 60 days???? This idea has been running through my mind all day! I know that it is possible to change your life in an instant, but is that decision something that if maintained for a full 60 days, can it really make you a different person than who you are today??? Not that I don’t love who I am, I just know that I want to be the BEST ME THAT I CAN BE!!!
Gosh, the only way I know to figure this conundrum out is to test it!! but, if you’ve followed my blog, you would know that I don’t do so hot at actually following through to completion any of these self-imposed challenges. Anyone else have the same problem????
If I were to completely change my life in 60 days, what would I have to do????
I would have to change how I spend my free time
I would have to change how I spend my money
I would have to change how I see the world
OH, is that all???? I will have to get right on that!!! LOL! π
No seriously, New Years is coming in just a few days, and I was thinking about what new resolutions I was going to make this year, and wouldn’t it be cool if I could start it by doing something cool with myself??? I think that would be pretty phenomenal!!
I will have to give this some serious thought, but I think that if I am going to do this, I am going to first have to decide, where do I want to be in 60 days??? 60 days older? 60 days wiser? thinner? richer? more organized? What? What do I want???
Let me give this some serious thought, and I will get back to you!!
Heading back to work after a 4-day weekend is rough, but I am excited to see my co-workers and find out how their Christmas’ went!!
Christmas for us was much different than it usually was, and I was worried that those changes would be a little sad, but really !!! First off, we had a much smaller group than normal, which was nice, because there isn’t much room/seating at my sister’s place. For the most part, the day was quiet, and peaceful, which was a nice change for the norm. LOL!! We all slept in a little, and then got up, dressed, took down our temporary bed – it sits in the middle of the living room floor, and then my dad and his wife showed up, which meant – it was almost time to open our stockings!! YEAH! Stockings are fun!! After stockings, we popped in a Christmas movie, and then all of us girls got to work on starting dinner!!! My mom’s ham with brown sugar and mustard rub – YUM, mashed potatoes, steamed broccoli, deviled eggs, celery platters (with cream cheese or peanut butter), meat and cheese platters, crackers, chocolate and peanut butter fudges, cookies, peanut butter crunch, chocolates, etc, etc, etc, etc!!! WOW!! How we all didn’t keel over after having our fill (plus some) – is in itself a Christmas miracle!!! π I am sure we all must have gone home having gained at least 5 pounds each!!! LOL!!
We spent the day playing games, watching movies, snacking – you know, holidays!!! I had such an awesome time!!! I was glad we were able to see Alice and the boys too!! That was fun!! and those boys are the cutest little minions ever!!! π
Gifts were swapped, and everyone got at least SOMETHING that they ABSOLUTELY WANTED!! Including me!! I got my yearly Christmas Santa – I collect those you know!! and I even got a bonus gift when we got home yesterday, my sweetie had something shipped to the house, and I was soooo excited to see what it was!!! and of course, because Jason was the one who got it, it was PERFECT, it was the Percy Jackson series, by Rick Riordan, hardback set!! YEAH!!! I have been putting the series together one-by-one and was only up to 2 books, so – there you go!!!
So, we are home, the girls are happy, Jason is happy, the Christmas tree and decor are still up – and may be up until March, since it is just so pretty and sparkly – it always makes me a little sad to take it down!! All is right with the world, and I am now going to head to work!!!
It is true what they say, “There is no place like home!” As much fun as I had hanging out with my family, I am so thankful to finally be home, with our two girls, and lying in our own bed – oh yes, I have said it before and I will continue to say it again, it is the small things in life that bring me the most pleasures!!!
Anyways, I will tell you all about our weekend tomorrow, as for now my sweetie and I are planning on doing sone reading in bed with the girls until we fall asleep!! HEAVEN!!!
Merry Christmas to you all! I pray that you have had a FABULOUSLY memorable Christmas day, and that you go to bed tonight with a happy smile on your faces!
